Firstly, this just had to happen.

He then really had to be subsitituted, which took England one step backwards from reaching the World Cup Finals.

The worst has yet to come.

He just did not have to push fellow clubmate C.Ronaldo to aggravate the matter. -_-"

YES, with a moment of folly and unnecessary rashness towards fellow clubmate Christiano Ronaldo, he further gave the referee an opportunity to send him off with a RED CARD. *heart sinks*

Now, this took England many many steps backwards from reaching the World Cup Finals.

Nonetheless, the remaining 10 England players gave an extra 10% each into fighting Portugal and managed to not let the Portugese players score. BUT, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were both so disappointing. They had several chances to score after Rooney was sent off yet they just didn't grab the opportunity well. Even for the penalty kicks, both of them missed the goal as well. *hopes dashed* I was depending so much on the two of them to create a miracle! *totally disappointed* Only Owen Hargreaves managed to score a goal in the penalty kick shootout.

But IN THE END...

With a score of 3-1.

The winning penalty goal scored by Christiano Ronaldo of the Portugal team.

And everyone cheers.

David Beckham and coach Sven Goran Eriksson applaud fans after their 3-1 loss in the penalty kick shootout against Portugal. Good sportsmanship there. :)

England's John Terry Acknowledges The Crowd After Portugal Defeated England In Their World Cup 2006 Quarter-Final Soccer Match In Gelsenkirchen. Awww.

The two captains, England's David Beckham and Portugal's Luis Figo embrace after Portugal's 3-1 win in the penalty kick shootout. Sweet.

But I must say, England performed much better in this Quarter-Final match than any of their previous matches in this World Cup. This Quarter-Final match was a tough fight.
